I feel like we might be! I don't even know where to begin with this post or this blog. I guess at the beginning.
This summer T & I started talking about adoption. After talking about it with each other, we learned that both of us had felt for a good part of our lives that we would want to adopt a child(ren). We feel the "calling" to offer a stable, loving home to a child that would otherwise not have one. For months I researched adoption & adoption agencies. We have some friends from church that just recently adopted their daughter, so we scheduled a dinner with them to find out more about the process and what our next steps would be. They gave us so much information and we were super excited to start the next step in our journey, although we weren't really sure what it was. LOL. We knew we wanted to go through a lawyer and not an agency. We have been in the process of finding the right one for us & knew we had to start saving for our home study. So that is where we have been for the last few weeks.
There is another couple from our church that is in the process of becoming a foster family in our county. We had spoke with them a little about it, but did not know much of the program. Last Sunday we were able to spend a little more time talking about it with them. Even at that time we just didn't feel that the foster system was for us. They had given us the name of the agency they were using and said that they believed they had an adoption only program. I went right home and googled it. The next day T gave the agency a call and set up an appointment to meet and get some information.
Thursday night we met with an amazing lady that gave us the run down on foster care. In our hour meeting she opend our hearts and our minds to foster. In our county there are more than 300 children in the foster system and less than 100 foster homes. That broke my heart. We left the meeting with a feeling that this is what and where we needed to be. Our whole thought on adoption was to give a child a home that would otherwise not have one. These children in foster care need a stable, loving home that we can offer them, even if it is only for a short time.
After spending the weekend talking with family and friends, praying & talking with each other we made the decision to go ahead with the process. T made the call today and I have been filling out paper work tonight!! EEEK.
Our next step is to call our local DHS office and set up our In Home Consultaion. This phone call will be made tomorrow. We are ready to get this ball rolling!! Are we crazy?
